A byte is a set of 8 bits that represent a single character in the computer's memory. A byte is the smallest unit of storage that can be accessed in a computer's memory. The term byte was coined by Dr. Werner Buchholz in July 1956.

A Bit is generally shortened form of binary digit. A bit is either a 0 or 1. Bits are generally used to indicate situations that can take one of two values or one of two states.

Large amounts of memory are indicated in terms of kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, petabytes, and exabytes.
