The logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMT) method is used to determine the temperature driving force for heat transfer in a flow system. This method is the logarithmic average temperature difference between the hot water and cold water flows at both ends of the heat exchanger.
This calculator is used to calculate the logarithmic mean temperature difference (i.e. parallel flow of heat, liquid or gas, from left to right, so cold flow is the same).
The larger the logarithmic mean temperature difference, the more heat is transferred. This method is used when analyzing the thermal properties directly from a constant flow rate and fluid heat transfer.
